Barcelona forced to relocate Joan Gamper Trophy to Johan Cruyff Stadium

According to Barcelona’s official announcement, the planned reopening of Spotify Camp Nou next month has been delayed again — the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Como on August 10 will be relocated to Johan Cruyff Stadium.

The delay stems from licensing issues regarding the stadium’s reopening — security requirements for stadium access have not been fully met. While some permits have been obtained, the club acknowledges that the large scale of renovation makes it impossible to meet all regulations on time.

Johan Cruyff Stadium, home to Barcelona’s women’s team, has a capacity of only 6,000 spectators — vastly different from the initial partial reopening plan of Camp Nou that would accommodate 20,000 to 30,000 fans.

Barcelona has been playing at the Olympic Stadium for the past two seasons during renovations. The return plan to Camp Nou originally scheduled for last November has faced continuous delays — total renovation is expected to complete at the start of the 2026-27 season.

LaLiga has granted Barcelona permission to play three away matches at the season’s start. When returning to Camp Nou, spectator capacity will be limited between 50,000 and 60,000 throughout this season.
