PSSI prepares two new naturalized players to replace injured Ole Romeny

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir confirms plans to naturalize two new players for the Indonesian national team — the decision follows an injury sustained by Ole Romeny.

The 25-year-old striker suffered a serious injury while playing for Oxford United against Arema FC in the 2025 President’s Cup at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium — the incident occurred when his foot was stepped on by Arema FC striker Paulinho.

Romeny, who is currently recovering from surgery in the Netherlands, is doubtful for Indonesia’s 2026 World Cup Asian zone qualifying matches against Saudi Arabia and Iraq this coming October.

According to Erick Thohir, two heritage players have committed to joining the Indonesian national team — this plan follows the naturalization of Mauro Ziljstra who is projected for the U-23 team.
