Jakarta, July 18, 2025 – Indonesian national team defender Justin Hubner issued a public apology to Saudi Arabian fans after his Instagram Stories post drew backlash for allegedly disrespecting The Green Falcons following the fourth-round draw of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Indonesia was drawn into Group B alongside Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Shortly after the official draw announcement, Hubner posted several Instagram stories. One of the posts sparked controversy among Saudi supporters, who viewed it as a provocative message suggesting Indonesia would defeat the host nation.

According to reports by Winwin, many Saudi fans perceived Hubner’s statement as offensive and dismissive of the strength of their national team. It was interpreted as a veiled threat directed at Saudi Arabia ahead of the match scheduled for October 8 at Al-Inma Stadium in Jeddah.

Facing intense criticism on social media, Hubner decided to delete the post and followed up with a written apology. He clarified that his message was not intended to offend anyone and emphasized it was all in the spirit of friendly competition.

“I apologize if anyone felt disrespected, it’s all love my friends,” wrote Hubner.

Indonesia will face Saudi Arabia on October 8 and Iraq on October 11. Only the group winner will qualify directly for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the runner-up will advance to the fifth round of the qualifiers.
