Jonatan Christie eliminated in first round of Japan Open 2025

In a surprising turn at Japan Open 2025 — Jonatan Christie becomes the only seeded player eliminated among eight top players competing in today’s round of 32.

At Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, the fourth seed in men’s singles had to acknowledge defeat to home representative Kenta Nishimoto in a one-sided match.

This loss comes as unexpected considering the players’ previous head-to-head record — Christie led with 10 victories from 18 meetings, including his latest win at Indonesia Masters 2025. Nishimoto entered this tournament with high confidence after claiming the Canada Open 2025 title.
