Ginting and Gregoria ready for comeback at Japan Open after long recovery

The Indonesian badminton team held an official training session at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium — the venue for Japan Open 2025 starting tomorrow.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung — two athletes who recently recovered from injuries — joined the one-hour training across three different courts.

“It feels different because I haven’t competed for a very long time. Usually I just train, and now with the tournament coming up, although still adapting to the court today, being at the venue creates a different feeling,” stated Ginting.

Ginting, who has been absent since Malaysia Open last January due to a shoulder injury — acknowledges needing time to readjust to the competition atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Gregoria, who has been absent since Asian Championships last April due to vertigo — confirms her condition has improved.

“For preparation in Jakarta, thank God everything went smoothly without disruptions. Most importantly, the vertigo hasn’t recurred despite increased training intensity, and my body is more ready now,” said Gregoria.
