NASCAR Pit Stop Incident at Sonoma Leads to Physical Confrontation

According to NASCAR on TNT, tensions flared at Sonoma Raceway’s pit lane during the NASCAR Cup Series race. The incident involved driver Ty Gibbs and RFK Racing’s pit crew.

Approaching the end of Stage 2 — as several drivers made early pit stops to gain better track position — Ty Gibbs crossed through RFK Racing’s pit box and nearly collided with tire carrier Telvin McClurkin. The tire McClurkin was carrying was clipped by Gibbs’ car, resulting in a twisted wrist.

The incident sparked a confrontation between McClurkin and Joe Gibbs Racing crew members — leading to pushing and shoving between both teams.

“Going in, I have the right of way,” stated Gibbs. “The orange lines in the pit stalls are there for a reason. They jump for a reason. Those guys like to push it and that’s the consequence you pay.”

NASCAR reviewed the incident and decided not to penalize Gibbs — as drivers are permitted to drive through up to three pit boxes when approaching their own. Gibbs eventually finished seventh, while Brad Keselowski finished eleventh.
