Wiegman Wants England to Maintain Momentum Ahead of Euro Quarter-Final

Sarina Wiegman, head coach of the England women’s national team, emphasized the importance of maintaining urgency and focus as the Lionesses head into the Euro 2025 quarter-finals.

England delivered a dominant performance in their final group stage match, defeating Wales 6–1 in St. Gallen. The goals came from Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp, Alessia Russo, Beth Mead, and Aggie Beever-Jones.

“We built momentum from the France game because that really brought us together and everyone wanted to perform,” said Wiegman.

After losing their opening match to France, the Lionesses bounced back strongly with a 4–0 win over the Netherlands, followed by their emphatic victory against Wales.

“If you want to be successful in a tournament, you should be able to win every single game. That’s how we approach it,” Wiegman added.

Looking ahead to the quarter-final clash with Sweden in Zurich, Wiegman acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents — a team known for its solid structure, rapid counterattacks, and resilience.
