Arne Slot gives emotional tribute to late Diogo Jota

Ahead of the friendly match against Preston North End, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Diogo Jota through the club’s official website.

“It had a lot of impact on us, but nothing compared to the loss felt by his parents, his wife Rute, his children and his other family,” expressed Slot.

Liverpool has prepared a series of tributes at Deepdale — “You’ll Never Walk Alone” will be played before kickoff, both teams will wear black armbands, and a minute’s silence will be observed.

Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva passed away in a car accident near Zamora, Spain. The club has decided to retire the number 20 worn by Jota as a mark of respect.

“Jota was always himself. I’ve spoken to many of his teammates and staff members — they all rate him so high and say how nice of a person he was,” added Slot.

Liverpool players have only returned to training after attending the funeral in Portugal. Slot emphasized the importance of the team returning to play while honoring Jota’s memory.
