Franco Morbidelli suffers severe injury after Sachsenring crash

Franco Morbidelli has sustained a serious injury to his left collarbone following a violent crash during the MotoGP sprint race at Sachsenring, Germany.

The 30-year-old Italian rider — who was running in second position at the time — lost control of his VR46 Ducati at Turn 8 and cartwheeled multiple times through the gravel area.

After examination at the circuit medical center, Morbidelli was transferred to hospital in Chemnitz for further evaluation — this was his second crash at the same corner following an earlier incident in qualifying.

Morbidelli’s absence adds to the list of riders missing the German GP:

  • Enea Bastianini due to appendicitis
  • Maverick Vinales with shoulder injury
  • Somkiat Chantra after training accident

Despite the qualifying crash, Morbidelli managed to set a time good enough for fourth on the grid — his best achievement in 2025 after a front-row start in Aragon.
