Wrexham AFC Makes History with First Visit to Australia

In a historic preseason tour to Australia and New Zealand, Wrexham AFC began their journey with a commanding 3-0 victory over Melbourne Victory — a match witnessed by over 37,000 spectators at Marvel Stadium.

Phil Parkinson’s team has now arrived in Sydney to continue their tour, after completing their Melbourne agenda with satisfying results. During their stay in the first city, the Wrexham squad not only focused on football — they also experienced the local Australian Rules Football (AFL).

“Watched the game here, first time experiencing it, and I absolutely loved it. It’s a game that we didn’t know too much about beforehand, and then obviously came to the Marvel stadium to watch it, and I was fascinated the whole game. So I’m a big fan and will definitely watch more,” expressed George Evans, Wrexham’s goalscorer.

The attendance of 37,020 fans at the Wrexham versus Melbourne Victory match set a record — surpassing the highest A-League attendance of the 2024-25 season which stood at 32,741 for the Sydney Derby.

The Welsh team is scheduled to face Sydney FC in the Homebush area — the stadium that hosted the 2000 Olympics and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final. Before the match, the squad will visit the iconic Sydney Opera House landmark.
