Tim Mayer challenges Ben Sulayem’s leadership in FIA presidential election

Tim Mayer revealed his campaign manifesto for the FIA presidential position with sharp criticism of Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s leadership — highlighting the failure to deliver on reforms promised four years ago.

During a press conference ahead of the British Grand Prix, Mayer emphasized that Ben Sulayem’s promises about transparency and support for smaller clubs have not been properly realized.

“Mohammed Ben Sulayem ran on good ideas: value for smaller clubs, transparency, reform. The message was right, but the delivery has failed. Instead of reform, we’ve seen performance,” stated Mayer.

The FIA presidential election system requires support from:

  • One senate president candidate
  • One deputy president
  • Seven vice-presidents for sport
  • One deputy president for automobile and tourism

With 245 member organizations across 149 countries, each country holds 24 votes divided between mobility and sporting clubs. Mayer must convince member clubs that he can deliver better value than the current leadership.
