Christian Horner leaves Red Bull after 20 glorious years of leadership

Christian Horner concludes his historic leadership era at Red Bull Formula 1 team — a journey that began in 2005 when he became the youngest team principal in F1 history.

During his two-decade tenure, Horner led Red Bull to eight drivers’ world championships and six constructors’ titles — achievements that establish him as one of the most successful team leaders.

Under his guidance, several drivers achieved extraordinary success — Sebastian Vettel claimed four consecutive titles from 2010-2013, while Max Verstappen dominated the recent era with four straight world championships from 2021 through 2024.

However, not all drivers flourished under his firm leadership:

  • Pierre Gasly lasted only half a season in 2019
  • Alex Albon struggled to match Verstappen’s performance
  • Liam Lawson lost his seat after just two races
  • Yuki Tsunoda still strives to prove himself in the main team

“He helped develop the team’s infrastructure and played a crucial role in our success,” Horner said about David Coulthard, the first driver he recruited for Red Bull.
