Wrexham AFC Embarks on Maiden Tour of Australia and New Zealand

Wrexham AFC — now under the ownership of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds — is conducting their inaugural pre-season tour in Australia and New Zealand ahead of the 2025-26 Championship season.

Wayne Jones, a prominent figure from the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary series, reflects on the stark contrast between his current visit to Australia and his backpacking experience 20 years ago — when he worked various odd jobs across different cities.

The club’s journey has been remarkable — from near bankruptcy and relegation to becoming the first club to achieve three consecutive promotions in English football history. Wrexham will return to Championship competition for the first time since 1982.

“I think I’ve been in denial for the last couple of years, where I’ve been saying my life hasn’t changed. But, of course, it’s changed. I’m sitting in Australia, talking to you guys. People recognize the shirt,” said Jones.

Wrexham has just unveiled their home jersey for the 2025-26 season, with a design inspired by their last Championship kit. The tour’s first match will take place against Melbourne Victory at Marvel Stadium.
