Liverpool to proceed with first preseason match after Diogo Jota’s passing

Liverpool will proceed with their first preseason match against Preston North End on Sunday — the first game since the passing of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva.

The Liverpool first team squad returned to training on Tuesday — a schedule delayed from the initial plan as many players attended the funeral in Portugal.

Floral tributes have been placed outside the AXA Training Centre and Anfield as marks of respect. The Spanish Civil Guard revealed that the Lamborghini driven by Jota was traveling above the speed limit before veering off course in northwest Spain.

“I was sitting with one of my players, Kian Fitz-Jim. I got a notification on my watch. Then you fall silent,” shared John Heitinga, former Liverpool coach now managing Ajax.

The match at Deepdale will feature various tributes — details still being finalized between Liverpool and Championship side Preston North End.
