Wrexham AFC Embarks on Historic Tour in Australia and New Zealand

Ahead of the 2025-26 Championship season, Wrexham AFC is conducting their first historic preseason tour in Australia and New Zealand. Manager Phil Parkinson‘s team has brought 30 players to compete in three matches against A-League clubs.

In Melbourne, the team faced unexpected weather conditions — Australian winter made their first training session take place in low temperatures. “We thought it would be warm here, but it’s absolutely freezing,” said striker Sam Smith.

“It’s extremely important. It’s two weeks to spend with the team and staff, to bond. When we go through difficult times, we’ll all know each other and go that extra yard for each other,” Smith explained about the preseason tour benefits.

Parkinson remains active in player recruitment despite the nine-hour time difference with England. “We’re looking to improve the squad before the season starts. While many players want to join Wrexham, it’s never easy getting quality players from clubs who don’t want to sell,” he stated.

The team also visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground and will attend an AFL match at Marvel Stadium — the same venue for their upcoming game against Melbourne Victory on Friday.
