Christian Horner Fired from Red Bull Racing CEO Position

According to Sky Sports, Christian Horner has been dismissed from his position as CEO and team principal of Red Bull Racing — a shocking development in Formula 1 today.

Laurent Mekies from Racing Bulls has been promoted to take over as Red Bull team principal and CEO, while Alan Permane will replace Mekies’ position at Racing Bulls.

Sky Sports commentator and former F1 driver Martin Brundle expressed his sadness over the decision.

“I’m not completely surprised given the issues within the team and rumors from the Verstappen camp. Christian is a friend and he’s done an incredible job over the last 20 years — winning many races and championships,” said Brundle.

During his leadership, Horner led Red Bull to 124 race victories, eight drivers’ titles with Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, and six constructors’ titles — however, team performance has declined in the 2025 season, dropping to fourth in the constructors’ standings.

This decision comes amid various team challenges, including speculation about Verstappen’s move to Mercedes and difficulties finding a matching teammate — plus last year’s controversy despite Horner being cleared of inappropriate behavior allegations toward a female employee.
