Ferrari’s Steering Issues Hamper Leclerc at British GP

Charles Leclerc encountered difficulties with his Ferrari SF-25 during British GP qualifying — an issue later revealed to be connected to the car’s power steering system.

After securing only sixth position on the starting grid, the Monegasque driver disclosed a specific problem affecting his performance in fast corners.

“The issues are very specific. It’s not a balance or grip issue, but something very weird that we have to fight in the car. Especially in high speed, it makes things more difficult,” Leclerc explained.

This challenge primarily surfaces during qualifying when drivers must push their cars to the absolute limit — unlike race conditions which are more controlled.

Fred Vasseur, Ferrari team principal, confirmed the issue can be resolved:

“It’s true that we are struggling with something, but it can be fixed.”

F1’s power steering system, introduced in the early 1990s, is designed to ease car control, particularly in high-speed corners with significant g-forces. Similar issues have affected other drivers previously, including Sebastian Vettel with Aston Martin four years ago.
