UEFA Rejects Real Madrid’s Appeal Over Rüdiger, Mbappé, and Ceballos Sanctions

UEFA has rejected Real Madrid’s appeal to lift disciplinary sanctions against Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, and Dani Ceballos for their improper conduct.

The three players received different fines — Rüdiger €40,000, Mbappé €30,000, and Ceballos €20,000 — related to incidents following Real Madrid’s penalty shootout victory over Atlético Madrid in Champions League round of 16.

Rüdiger and Mbappé also received one-match suspensions that only apply if they repeat similar violations. UEFA’s appeal body confirmed — there were no grounds to overturn sanctions issued by the ethics and disciplinary committee.

UEFA’s investigation began after several inappropriate behaviors were caught on camera:

  • Rüdiger made a throat-slitting gesture toward Atlético supporters
  • Mbappé performed an inappropriate gesture during victory celebrations
  • Ceballos was found guilty of provoking fans at the Metropolitano Stadium
