Gregoria Mariska returns to action at Japan Open after vertigo recovery

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and Putri Kusuma Wardani will represent Indonesia in women’s singles at Japan Open 2025 — both are set to face host country shuttlers.

This tournament marks Gregoria’s comeback after a three-month absence due to vertigo, with her last appearance at the 2025 Asian Championships in April.

“For Gregoria, this serves as a warm-up event before the World Championships,” stated Eng Hian, PBSI’s Head of Development and Achievement.

“We hope Gregoria can perform at her best and complete the tournament series while maintaining her fitness,” he added.

In the first round, Gregoria will face Riko Gunji — the 2019 junior world champion who is often compared to her senior Akane Yamaguchi.
