Jordi Amat Reveals Personal Meaning Behind Number 21 at Persija Jakarta

Jordi Amat has opted for a new jersey number at Persija Jakarta, choosing to wear number 21 — a departure from the number 4 he typically wears with the Indonesia national team.

The 33-year-old defender explained the decision during a training session at Nirwana Park Field, Sawangan, in West Java, stating that he wanted to draw a clear distinction between his club and international identities.

“I want to differentiate between the national team and my club, Persija,” said Amat.

The Barcelona-born player went on to share the personal significance behind his choice. The number 21, he revealed, is a tribute to his birth date — March 21 — and has long held sentimental value for him.

“Jersey number 21 has been my favorite number since childhood. It’s my birth date, so that’s why I chose this number,” Amat explained.

Amat recently joined Persija ahead of the 2025/2026 Liga 1 season, bringing with him international experience and leadership qualities from his stints in Europe and Southeast Asia. His arrival, alongside fellow national team defender Rizky Ridho, is seen as a major boost to Macan Kemayoran’s defensive strength.
