Mauricio Souza Optimistic About National Team Defender Duo at Persija Jakarta

Persija Jakarta has bolstered its defense ahead of the 2025/2026 Liga 1 season by securing the services of two Indonesian national team defenders — Jordi Amat and Rizky Ridho.

Head coach Mauricio Souza expressed his satisfaction with the arrival of both players, emphasizing the impact their experience and leadership could have on the squad. The Brazilian tactician is particularly focused on integrating Jordi Amat, who only recently joined the Macan Kemayoran.

“He has only had two training sessions with us,” said Souza.

“But I’m optimistic that a player of his caliber will adapt quickly to our system.”

Amat, a defender of Spanish-Indonesian descent, brings a wealth of international and club experience, including time in La Liga and the Thai League. His presence, alongside the consistently solid Rizky Ridho, is expected to form the backbone of Persija’s defensive unit this season.

The club’s efforts to strengthen the backline come in response to their inconsistent defensive performances in the previous campaign. With the addition of two proven defenders, Persija is aiming for a stronger showing in the upcoming Liga 1 season and improved results in key matches.
