Jorge Campos: The story behind football’s most iconic goalkeeper uniforms

According to Bolavip Mexico, Jorge Campos — the legendary goalkeeper who made his mark in the 90s — was known not only for his spectacular style on the field but also for his distinctive colorful uniforms.

“I always had an interest in design and marketing — everything flowed naturally. I wanted to wear something comfortable that reminded me of surfing in Acapulco,” said Campos.

Daniel Ríos, founder of Aca Sport brand, initially designed neon uniforms for goalkeeper Adrián Chávez. However, when Chávez rejected them, Campos showed interest and requested adding diamond patterns that later became his trademark.

Each uniform featured special details:
* “Surfer” text and palm tree image behind the collar
* “Acapulco” name on left sleeve
* “Campos” name on right sleeve
* Tennis-style shorts with side pockets

Aca Sport achieved global success in the 90s before closing in 1997. However, in 2020, the business was revived as Raute Sport — collaborating with Campos to create special editions maintaining the iconic 90s designs.

“We reached the top, achieved everything we could achieve before starting to go downhill,” said Ríos about his business journey.
