Calvin Verdonk reveals disappointment after heavy defeat to Australia

According to Voetbal Primeur, Calvin Verdonk shared his perspective on Indonesia’s national team defeat against Australia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Asian Zone match in Sydney.

Patrick Kluivert‘s debut as head coach ended in a heavy 5-1 defeat — a stark contrast to their previous meeting in Jakarta, which ended in a goalless draw.

“Yes, it’s clear, very clear, the first match wasn’t good,” said Verdonk.

“I don’t think we played that badly in the first match against Australia,” he added.

The defender emphasized that the Garuda Squad actually had the potential to put up better resistance — despite ultimately having to accept defeat at the opponent’s home ground.

Looking ahead, Indonesia will need to address key weaknesses exposed in the loss to Australia— particularly in defense and midfield transitions.

As the team continues its World Cup qualification journey— Kluivert and his coaching staff will likely make tactical adjustments to ensure a stronger performance in the upcoming matches.
